Whether it\u2019s a technical term that they aren\u2019t familiar with or navigating their desire to be polite, talking to your customers can be like a lot like translating. Here are a few of the things you might hear your customers say\u2014and what they really mean.<\/p>\n<p>(And, remember, we love our customers, and we know you appreciate your customers, too. This is only for fun.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. What Customers Say: \u201cI definitely need [product].\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cI\u2019m pretty sure I need this product because I\u2019ve used it in a similar situation before and I\u2019m not ready to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. What Customers Say: \u201cI want people to know that this is our brand.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cMake the logo big.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. What Customers Say: \u201cCould you make that logo a little bigger?\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cCould you make that logo a <em>lot <\/em>bigger?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. What Customers Say: \u201cIt\u2019s a shame that you have to work on holidays\/weekends.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cThis is probably a pain for you, but I\u2019m really glad that you\u2019re open because it\u2019s the only day that I have to place this order.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. What Customers Say: \u201cCan you make it pop?\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cMake it shiny and colorful. Maybe add more detail. No, more colorful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. What Customers Say: \u201cI\u2019m on a tight budget.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cMy wish list is much bigger than my budget. I\u2019m probably going to look at your pricing quote and ask if you can adjust the pricing a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. What Customers Say: \u201cI like it, but\u2026\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat Customers Mean: \u201cI don\u2019t actually like it at all, but I\u2019m trying to be polite.\u201d<br \/>\nWhat Customers Might Also Mean: \u201cI\u2019m realizing now that the more expensive thing you showed me before would have made me happier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. What Customers Say: \u201cI don\u2019t have a budget in mind!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cI\u2019ve definitely got a budget in mind, but I haven\u2019t put a number on it just yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. What Customers Say: \u201cI\u2019ll know what I want when I see it.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat Customers Mean: \u201cI don\u2019t know what I want, and chances are I\u2019ll want to see every sample you have before I know what I want.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>10. What Customers Say: \u201cWhat\u2019s the turn time on that?\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat Customers Mean: \u201cI should have placed this order a few weeks ago, but time got away from me and now I need to get it fast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. What Customers Say: \u201cLet\u2019s change it back to how it was before.\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>What Customers Mean: \u201cI know I had a lot of requests, but I\u2019m starting to realize that they didn\u2019t get this to look like I wanted it to and it\u2019s easier not to change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Have you heard these customer comments?
