We\u2019ve seen new terminology come onto the scene, new file formats and print tools, and many digital developments. Here are just a few of the big changes that we\u2019ve seen over the 70 years we\u2019ve been in business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1948<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The first of the companies that came together to become Navitor was founded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1949<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Phototypesetting was developed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1950s<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Term &#8220;prepress&#8221; replaced &#8220;pre-makeready&#8221; used in commercial letterpress, particularly in regard to printing photoengravings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1951<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Inkjet printing was developed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1957<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Helvetica typeface was introduced. Helvetica remains one of the most popular typefaces.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1957<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dye-sublimation printing was developed. We still use sublimation to create vibrant badges and other specialty products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1959<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Xerographic office photocopying was introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1963<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pantone Color Matching System was introduced. It\u2019s still the premiere color matching system to this day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1969<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Laser printer was invented at Xerox.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1970<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Water-based ink was introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1974<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 American Printing History Association was founded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1975<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ISO standard for paper sizes was introduced (ISO 216).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1981<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Internet was developed. If you\u2019re reading this, you probably have a good idea of how much that development has opened up possibilities for print businesses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1983<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Desktop publishing was developed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1987<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Soy-based ink was developed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1988<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adobe Photoshop raster graphics editor was introduced. Photoshop and other Adobe programs are still some of the most popular for creating print documents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1991<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TrueType scalable computer fonts were introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Indigo digital color printer was introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1993<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Portable Document Format (PDF) files were introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1996<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OpenType scalable computer fonts were introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2003<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hewlett Packard wi-fi laser printers were introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The G7 method for color management was introduced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2008<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Printing Industries of America\/Graphic Arts Technical foundation was rebranded under a new logo and the name Printing Industries of America (PIA).<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, there have been a lot of advances since Navitor got its start. We\u2019re proud to have stood with you through the rise of digital technology, the development of new file formats, and the evolution of new print processes, and we look forward to the advances that the future brings!<\/p>\n<p>What bits of print history have made the biggest impact on your work?
